The Loudoun County Boys Varsity Basketball team delivered a dominating performance in the second half to defeat Loudoun Valley 54-45. This was the second time in 5 days that these two teams squared off, and the Raiders came out victorious in both games (LC also won 54-46 in Purcellville on 1/31).
Loudoun Valley came out strong and held a 15-5 lead after one quarter and a 25-16 lead at the half. The Raiders responded by outscoring the Vikings 23-9 in the third quarter, capped off by a three-pointer by Matthew Anderson at the buzzer which gave the Raiders a 39-34 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Loudoun County then outscored the Vikings 19-14 in the final frame to hold on for the win. In total, the Raiders outscored the Vikings by 18 points in the second half and turned a nine-point deficit into a nine-point advantage.
Mark Siegel had 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Matthew Anderson had 15 points, 6 rebounds, and 9 assists. Nate Brown (9 points) and Luke Brenner (5 points) were also outstanding with their overall defense and rebounding, both of which made a huge impact on the game in favor of the Raiders.
The Raiders are now 13-5 on the season and 8-0 in the Dulles District. Loudoun Valley and Dominion are the closest teams to the Raiders in the standings with both of them possessing a 7-2 district record.
The Raiders will travel to Park View to take on the Patriots on 2/6.
